You don’t need to have any experience to start playing men’s roller derby in Perth. To join Perth Men’s Derby, our only prerequisites are that you are a male and over 18 years of age.
Our skaters come from all walks of life, with varying degrees of skate skill. The youngest you can be is 18 but other than that, there are no age limits. Your height and body type is completely irrelevant. If you’re still having doubts about whether men’s roller derby is for you, take our short quiz.
We’ll teach you everything you need to know. From basic skating skills, how to use your body to legally hit other skaters in legal areas, right through to strategic roller derby plays.
You’ll also get fit and make friends while doing it!
What you need before you train
You will have to bring a mouth-guard to each and every session. We have some second-hand protective gear and even some spare skates that we can lend you short-term, just let us know when you’ll be at a session and we’ll make sure to have it there ready for you!
The costs involved
Training sessions are usually $15 for 2-3 hours. This helps to cover the cost of the venue.
Your first session is on us but if decide you want to join, you will need to pay a yearly league membership fee and also get skate insurance to make sure you’re covered if you get injured. We have all these forms available.
When you can come to a session
From the start of December through to the end of January, Perth Men’s Derby are in off-season. Our sessions will be focusing on footwork and skate skill so it’s the perfect time to come along and have a go. We usually train on a Sunday afternoon at the Rise in Maylands. You’re welcome to come along to any of our sessions, check out our training schedule and then email firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know you’re coming.
